Weddings

"Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful, or arrogant, or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."  1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

Christians believe that marriage is a gift from God.  Bride Groom during service In the marriage service, a couple make a public declaration of lifelong commitment to love each other, through both the good times and in the more difficult times.

A church wedding may be grand or simple, but at its heart is the desire to seek God’s blessing on your vows and your relationship as husband and wife.

Marriage following divorce

The Church of England believes that marriage should always be undertaken with the intention of permanence. However, it recognises that, sadly, some marriages do fail. Under certain circumstances, the Church accepts that a divorced person may marry again in church.

If either of you has previously been divorced, and you would like to enquire about getting married at St. Patrick’s, then please contact us on 07761-002870 to make an appointment.

We will explain how we approach marriage after divorce in this parish, and will talk to both of you confidentially about the circumstances of the unsuccessful marriage and the basis of your hopes for the future.

It will be necessary for you to bring the Decree Absolute to the interview, in order to prove that a previous marriage has been dissolved. A decision will then be made as to whether a church wedding will be possible at St. Patrick’s.
